Original Run Date on WCBU/Peoria Public Radio: June 30 & July 1 2018.
The Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame includes only 8 golfers. Three men and three women were local players.
Metamora native Renee Slone is the most successful female golfer in University of Illinois history. Renee played five professional golf seasons before returning to Illinois as women’s golf coach.
Jill Briles-Hinton is the only woman in the Hall as coach and player. After an All-American collegiate career at the University of Miami, Peoria Central High alum Jill Briles was an exempt LPGA Tour player for 12 consecutive years. For a decade, Briles-Hinton was the Head Women’s coach at the University of Florida. Under Briles-Hinton, Florida qualified for the NCAA Championships six times. She later coached at the University of Richmond.
Slone and Briles-Hinton stand at the pinnacle of Peoria-area golfers.
